Gilly’s Redefined – have you been here?

Gilly’s Redefined – have you been here?

Have you ever got happy-high and danced your night away at Gilly’s Redefined?

Dancing is an excellent stress-buster, especially after an exhausting day and Bangalore houses some of the grooviest party destinations. Apart from just being a hub of IT professionals, the bustling city hosts the best dance floors for you to groove on.

After the sundown till a little past midnight, Bangalore is sure to leave you spellbound with its vivacious nightlife. From live karaokes to underground watering holes, umpteen microbreweries and posh nightclubs, you have multiple places to enjoy and make ad-hoc plans with your friends.

One thing that I have learnt after coming to Bangalore is that with so many pubs and discotheques across the city, you will never run out of options and can just soak up yourself in your favourite place, get happy-high and dance the night away with your friends. There are unduly high number of dance clubs and dedicated dance floors that serve all kinds of alcohol and scrumptious food.

From Big Brewsky to Pebble, XU, Skyye Lounge, Ice, High Ultra Lounge, No Limits Lounge, The Warehouse, Vapour, Siam Trading Company and many more; I have tried quite a lot of options on my list. But I have never got a chance to try my hands on Gilly’s Redefined.

5 reasons to get aboard the Rail Yatra on Aug 31st & say #ModaluTrainBeku!

1. Building the suburban train network is least disruptive on Bengaluru. It won’t affect the existing roads with diversions & bottlenecks while tracks are expanded, more trains run & stations fixed. Ride to demand the suburban train network!

2. It is most beneficial for Bengaluru. Like Chennai, upto 20 lakh people per day can commute if commissioned properly. Not 5-10 lakh like the Metro or a fraction of that by roads but upto 20 lakh daily! Banni! Jothege Hogona!

3. It is the lowest hanging mass transit for Bengaluru. Since ~180 kms of railway lines & >45 stations already exist, infrastructure does not need to be built afresh, only expanded. It can finish in 2-3 years! Train can be added incrementally & every couple of months 10s of thousands can switch to the train until it is fully enabled for upto 20 lakhs! Join the Yatra, ask for Rail!

4. Over 40 companies, civic groups, colleges, residents’ associations, commuters & wannabe commuters are demanding it! Don’t miss the train on Aug 31st!

5. The 4th pillar! The voice of the people! The press support #ModaluTrainBeku! You should too!

You can join at any station & take a ride, or just hang out!
You can join the onward!
You can join the return!

Sarkari Hiriya Prathamika Shale, Kasaragod

A Movie by Rishab Sheety

An upcoming director, with the perfect formula for commercial movies, has given several blockbusters to Kannada and South Indian cinema.

One needs to appreciate the concept of choosing a subject, which is very crucial for the State and our language, Kannada.

The entire crew of the movie include all new faces, except Veteran Anant Nag and Ramesh Bhat. First half of the movie is absolutely brilliant and covers the Village lifestyle and parents from different backgrounds. It also brings back the school days. The wonderful story narration continues with a childhood love story and most generic language barriers. The infrastructure challenges and poor administrations around the government school is focused

As Karagodu lies in the border of Karnataka and Kerala, the language barrier of Malayalam and Kannada is been brought out very well. The 1st 10 minutes, entry of Upadhaya who attacks the school in his Yaksgana costume is one the best scene.

The second half of the story introduces Sir Anant Nag. Although, the introduction of this character is a lacklustre, Ramesh Bhat and Anant Nag’s duo keeps the story intact and keeps you interested in the climax. The movie looses the humor factor in the second half and misses the surprise element too. The last part of the movie is completely focused on the lawyer and looses the storyline slightly and becomes off beat.

Movie comes with a message and warning for government schools in India and the major challenge of language.

A must watch movie.

Save Government School Campaign – Anil Shetty

Save Government School Campaign – Anil Shetty

An evening well spent watching Rishab Shetty’s new movie premiere, ‘Sarkari Hiriya Prathamika Shale, Kasaragod’. This movie is dedicated to Anil Shetty’s, “Nav Bharat”, “Save Government School Campaign”.

Young and dynamic Anil Shetty has promoted his campaign “Save Government School” in the prefect way with the premiere show of the latest Kannada movie ‘Sarkari Hiriya Prathamika Shale, Kasaragod’.

72 years ago, our motherland heard around many slogans for freedom, “Jai Hind”, “Vande Mataram”, “Quit India”, “Jai Jawaan Jai Kisaan” and many freedom movements like Dandi March and Non-Cooperation Movement. And today is the time to join hands for movements like “Save Government School”.

Anil Shetty and his team very aggressively working towards this campaign and making awareness in order to save the government schools.

During the launch of the Movie, Rishab Shetty highlighted a few interesting points like frequently many politicians are investing in private schools, which leaves government schools, with no hope.

Anil Shetty, mentioned many legendary names like Sudhamurthy from Infosys, Upendra and many others who studied from government schools and have achieved big milestones.

Its time that we as Bangaloreans support this cause. If you agree and are ready to support, give a missed call to “76764 44225”

Stay tuned for more.

Go-kart

Kart racing or karting is a variant of open-wheel motorsport with small, open, four-wheeled vehicles called karts, go-karts, or gearbox/shifter karts depending on the design. They are usually raced on scaled-down circuits. Karting is commonly perceived as the stepping stone to the higher ranks of motorsports, for example Ginetta Juniors, FIA Formula 4, FIA Formula 3, FIA Formula 2 and FIA Formula 1, with former F1 champions such as Nico Rosberg, Ayrton Senna, Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher beginning their careers in karting.

India to Bharat?

India to Bharat?

should India renamed to "Bharat"

The scriptures say “jambu dweepe Bhaarata varshe….” And from time immemorial a meaningful Samskrita ‘padham’ Bhaarat, has been in vogue: no one can deny this. Yet, our Constitution included the name India and liberally allowed everyone to use it even after attaining Independence from foreign invaders.

The Concept of Nation must sink into everyone’s mind, because nation is just an idea. When this idea burns through the mind, sinks into the heart and the passion rises towards it, then you have the real nation.
Otherwise nation would be just on papers and this would be the unfortunate reality for us.

After Bombay became Mumbai in 1995, Madras to Chennai in 1996, Calcutta to Kolkata in 2001, Trivandrum to Thiruvananthapuram in 1991 and Bangalore to Bengaluru in 2014.

Will Ravi Shastri delivers or the Team India can pull it out?

Ben Stokes not playing is a blessing to make it 1-1, Eng looks stronger with Sam Curran, Ollie Pope, Adil Rashid, and Chris Woakes

Kuldeep, Jadeja or our Batsman can pull it off?

My journey continues of meeting great Bangaloreans – Mr.Dattatreya Aralikatte- The Puppet Man of India

Mr Dattatreya Aralikatte taught geography at the Bangalore Higher Secondary School (BHSS) and also worked at Akashwani or the All India Radio. His stint with radio helped him learn the nuances of voice modulation, script writing and music.  A very soft spoken, down to earth person. I was one those lucky ones who got groomed by him during my studies at BHSS.

Had the opportunity of meeting him personally and what a wonderful person to be associated with!!!.  The ideas, the passion, the logic, his concern about society made me wonder whether such type of persons are there in this fast running age.

His concern about the society, where it is heading today made everybody think logically.  For every question he has a ready answer.  His concern for youngsters and youth of today made us take stock of where we are today.   His ideologies gave us a chance to give fodder to the brain.    A great person and a privilege to know and to be associated with.

I am gratified by the education what he gave me today of  “Never Give-up”.

Upendra-Prajakiya

My journey continues of meeting great Bangaloreans – Mr.Upendra

Mr. Upendra has made a mark in the world of Cinema. He is an individual who has followed what he believes. People around the globe have accepted and applauded his ideas and his work. And for the love for his fellow state-people, the star has rolled out a new political party “Prajakiya”,  which means for the people from the people and to the people of Karnataka.

The concept of Prajakiya believes in people oriented activities. This party works for the people and by the people. It allows residents to choose a candidate from the manifesto, which is screened and approved by Mr.Upendra, himself.

Prajakiya also has an APP (Mobile APP), where residents can post the challenges that they are facing in their locality/ward/constituency so that it can reach the concerned officers.

Mr. Upendra’s vision for Prajakiya is that every individual should be able to claim his/her rights. He is completely against the current political party system and he believes people of Karnataka will soon understands and support the vision of Prajakiya Party.

It was one of those pleasant day for me, especially after meeting Mr.Upendra, A man with several credits under his belt as a Writer, Director, Actor, and being very humble and yet ambitious. He is very clear with his thoughts about what  to give back to the community in big way through Prajakiya.

Zumba Fitness Challenge

Zumba Fitness Challenge

Fitness Trends of 2018 Are Driving Bangaloreans Crazy About Zumba – Do You Agree or Disagree?

Since the last decade, Indians have become more alarmed about living a healthy lifestyle, including fitness regimes in daily routine and practicing good hygiene. Having said that, the fitness freak Bangaloreans are definitely not just sitting back and watching others move their body to the beat. They have been a part of many fitness activities like marathon, cycling, badminton and foozball to name a few. Rather today, people have moved beyond treadmills and cycles and are creating new fitness mantras to rule the charts.

Indian Fitness Industry – From Treadmills to Wiggling & Pumping on Latin Music

As per 2017 stats, the Indian fitness industry has crossed Rs. 7000 crores and this is expected to grow by 22% – 27% in 2018. The branded clothing itself is incidentally more than a 6 million business in itself. This is the reason that with the rapidly rising urbanization, people have moved from treadmills to other fitness forms like Zumba, Masala Bhangara, Yoga, Cross-fit and much more.

Today most of the gyms that we see around us, have Zumba, Yoga and Cross-fit as mandate in their offerings. Compared to other fitness forms, Zumba has been on the rise in India since a couple of years and the Zumba Instructor’s Network is growing by thousands, each year. This new age workout is not only helping gyms to increase their client base, but is also helping them maintain a good retention rate.

Zumba has already taken Bangalore by storm and let me tell you, it’s not just dancing. It’s a choice of life and if you are still not aware about it, then here’s a sneak peak.

Millions & Still Counting

Zumba is the world’s biggest branded fitness program, that was originally founded by Alberto Perez in 2001, the street performer, who, in order to make some extra cash, used to teach the wives of wealthy businessmen how to dance in the nightclubs. Today more than 1.2 million people in India practice Zumba and this figure is sure to quadruple in the coming years.

Today, you might see Zumba happening at any gym near you. A young woman in fisherman’s pants, loose hair, patterned bandana, wiggling to pumping Latin music or some desi Bhangara beat and others in her class shaking their booties and following her. Now Zumba is not just seen as a way to healthy lifestyle, but also as an entertainment brand combining e-commerce, music and apparel.

The Zumba Fitness Challenge – Are you on it?

With this growing Zumba fitness craze amongst Bangaloreans, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that people asking for more has turned Zumba instructors to entrepreneurs. And, the Zumba eco-system is sure to pep-up even more. So, if you want to be a part of the Zumba evolution, get ready to share your Zumba videos with us. Take up the Zumba Fitness Challenge and win exciting prizes along with a lot of publicity.

All you have to do is

  • Login to Bangalorean.com and register your yourself.
  • Post Zumba videos on our Facebook page and tag your fitness freak friends.
  • The Zumba fitness video with maximum likes will get the chance to win exciting prizes.
  • Look out for more Fitness offers @ Bangalorean.com.

Basavangudi:

Basavanagudi is a residential and commercial locality in the city of Bengaluru.  It is located in South Bengaluru, along the borders of Jayanagar. The name “Basavanagudi” refers to the Bull Temple, which contains a monolith statue of the Nandi Bull. This constitution has 6 wards.  The famous landmark of this constituency is the Basava temple.

Kadlekai Parishe:

Kadalekai Parishe, is a Kannada word, which literally translates to Groundnut fair. Kadalekai Parishe, the annual groundnut   fair is held on the last Monday of Karthika Masa (month in Hindu calendar) near Dodda Ganesha, temple, near the Bull Temple at Basavanagudi.  The fair starts from the previous day with people thronging to the stalls selling and buying variety of groundnuts.  The day is a full moon day with vendors from our state and the neighboring states bring their first harvest to the market.   A  legend behind the Kadlekai Parishe is that in olden days farmers were aghast to learn that their crop was being devoured in the night by someone. One of the farmers wanted to investigate and on Kaarthika Maasa night which was pitch dark, he found out that the culprit was none other than Lord Shiva’s abode Nandi or Basava. Since then farmers collectively pledged their first crop to the Lord Basava.

Another legend says that the founder of Bengaluru Kempe Gowda had come the story. He had prayed for the welfare of the farmers at the temple. There he had a vision of a treasure which he to the temple and learnt about acquired later was used to build a temple based on the architecture of Hampi of Vijayanagar empire. Incidentally, the big Bull Temple or the Basava Temple is on the hillock near Bugle Rock in Basavanagudi.

The fair starts from the previous day with people thronging to the stalls selling buying variety of groundnuts.  The day is a full moon day with vendors from our state and the neighboring states bring their first harvest to the market. As the festival is virtually synonymous with Basavanagudi,   the area in and around  get a festive look, the traders start setting up their shops with mounds of ground nuts on. The Parishe begins on the last  Monday of auspicious Karthika, of Hindu calendar, when varieties of ground nuts are heaped on either side of Bull temple road on the footpath

The groundnut lovers find a variety of groundnuts from  Dharmapuri,  Krishnagiri, Kolar, Doddaballapur, Ramanagara and a few areas of Telengana. The ground nuts are spiced, fried, salted, boiled, sugar-coated, roasted. There are not just groundnut vendors but a whole lots of funfair. There are many toys for children and short buys and eats. Thus the garden city with its turbulent life and lifestyle has been struggling to keep some of the traditions like  Kadlekai (groundnut) parishe (fair).

Expecting a huge footfall turn out, usually the police beef up the security in the Bull temple vicinity during the fair.

Sree Varaprada Devagiri Venkateshwara Temple:

Many believe that in order to attain salvation (mukthi), in Kali Yuga, worship of Sri Venkateswara is the only medium as stated in sacred scriptures like Shastras, Puranas and Sthala Mahatyams (historical background of place). According to Rigveda and Asthdasa (eighteen) Purana even pilgrimage to Tirupathi is a sacred journey to Vaikunta because of its sanctity since Lord Venkateswara is the granter of fortunate things as desired by devotees.  Temple is a sacred place where non-violence is strictly observed.

There are many temples dedicated to Lord Venkateshwara in India, especially in south India particularly in Karnataka and its capital city of Bengaluru. Among many such temples Sree Varapada Venkateswara Temple, located on a beautiful Devagiri (God’s hill) in Banashankari, Bengaluru is an important shrine. According to devotees the idol of Lord Venkateswara consecrated here is just a replica of divine statue at Tirumala in Andhra Pradesh.

The main entrance to Temple is through Mahadwara of Rajagopura.  The Mahadwara is provided with two big wooden doors covered by decorated Brass Sheets duly Gold Plated. Apart from the main deity we can see His consort Goddess Padmavathi and Lord Ganesh on either side. It is easy to identify the location of this temple by looking at its Rajagopura which is of 108’ high and visible from long distance. It is a beautiful and artful of modern construction. Within this complex one can see the mini shrines built to house Navagrahas (Nine planet gods) and Lord Hanuman.

The activities of construction of this temple started in 1978 when site was allotted by City Improvement Trust Board. With the inauguration of Devalaya Nirmana (Temple construction) Sangha by celebrating Ganeshotsava and Ramnavami, under the patronage of local welfare association, Bhomi-pooje foundation stone was laid on 25.6.1978. The idol of Lord Venkateswara and others were installed on 03.05.1979. Navagraha and Hanuman were added in 08.02.1987. Sangha was converted as ‘Devagiri Sri Venkateswara Trust’ from 10.03.1997. The Vimana Gopuram and Raja Gopuarm have been beautified by providing focus light.

There is calm and serene atmosphere inside and outside temple. It is magnificent structure. The park adjoining it is an added attraction for devotees to relax..  The Temple has a DHYANA MANDIRA on the Northern side, just below the Bhakta Anjaneya Gudi. Here Yoga Classes, Dhyana Classes, Lectures on various Vedanta subjects, Tiruppavai, Geeta Gnana Yagna, etc. are regularly conducted. One can sit and pray silently in Meditation hall.

There will be mad rush on Vaikunta Ekadashi day which is observed with religious fervor because on that day devotees observe day-long fast, and on witnessing special pooja’s enter and pass through Divine door called ‘Vaikunta Dwara’ (door to reach abode of Lord Vishnu), which opens once in a year only on that festival day. It is not ‘Gate to Heaven’ as some say but the entrance to the abode of Lord Vishnu that can never be compared with Heaven. Heaven is only like luxury hotel, where one can stay and enjoy as long as one’s punya is in credit balance. Once that punya ends one is kicked out of heaven.

The Temple provides Financial Assistance to social causes and runs a Free Medical Service Centre  jointly with Devagiri Chritable Trust. The serene atmosphere of the temple fills the Devotees with peace and attracts them to visit the temple again and again. Krishnaraja Puram:

In recent years, KR Puram or Krishnarajapuram, located in East Bengaluru, 15 kilo-metres away from the Bengaluru City railway station, has evolved into a space where history remains entangled with its dusty roads, crowded residences and uneven commercialization. The reality behind its name, or the various names it has adopted since many centuries, has long been forgotten.  The Bangalore District Gazeteer published in 1990 traces the name back to Krishnaraja Wadiyar III, who ruled the provincial State of Mysore from 1799 to 1868. People, however, speculate that it might even be attributed to his predecessor, Immadi Krishnarajendra Wodeyar, who ruled between 1734 and 1766 A.D.

Traces of the reverence many of these heroes once enjoyed lie buried in parts of KR Puram even today . One of the prominent ones is the Marya inscription.  Legend goes that under the rule of the Ganga dynasty King Sripurusha, there was a village hero called Mareya who protected the villages against dacoits and sacrificed his life in the process. The hero-stone inscription near today’s Mahabaleshwara temple records this incident.  The exact location of the stone, however, remains unknown. This constituency has 9 wards.  The Hanging bridge at K.P.Puram is a well known land mark of this constituency.

The Hanging bridge of Benglauru:

The cable-stayed bridge at Krishnarajapuram in Bangalore has bagged the most outstanding national bridge award conferred by the Indian Institution of Bridge Engineers.

The 230-meter bridge, including the 180-meter cable stayed portion, was constructed by South Western Railway over the Krishnarajapuram Railway Station Yard on the busy Bengaluru-Chennai highway. The bridge was inaugurated on January 26, 2003 by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

South Western Railway Deputy General Manager  Mr. Prem Narayan and Deputy Chief Engineer Mr. Vijay Kumar, supervised its construction,

The cables themselves, the pylons supporting them, and the way the material was transported to the site are considered unique in engineering and logistics. The Garden City Skyway Bridge, as it has been named, passes over five tracks.

The technology of holding such structures with strong cables came from a design developed by Swiss engineers 50 years ago. Thousands of metres of wire measuring 12 mm in diameter was imported from Kobe, Japan, by Usha Martin Co. of Ranchi.

The 1,830-metre bridge will have four lanes for traffic. The cables take the entire load of vehicles passing on the bridge — up to 300 tonnes at a time — and will pass on the load pressure to the pylons which in turn will pass it to the ground. The cable inclination with the towers varies from 23.7 degrees to 74 degrees. The longest cable is 113 meters.

The bridge is a joint venture of the Union Ministry of Surface Transport, Southern Railways, and the State Government. The Railways have shared the bulk of the total cost of Rs. 47 crores. Even as the bridge was under construction, city planners and engineers from places such as Patna, Nainital, and Ahmedabad came here to study it and examine if the technology could be replicated.
