BBMP Maternity homes are getting a face-lift. After so many years the BBMP has at last decided to give a boost to give a face-lift to its maternity homes.
Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike has decided to upgrade the maternity hospitals in the city. The hospitals will soon have a laboratory, ultrasound scanner and other super-speciality services.
Steps taken to face-lift BBMP maternity homes:
The first step towards face-lift will be construction and repairs. There are 24 BBMP maternity homes and 6 referral hospitals which comes under BBMP wing.
The civic body BBMP has invited tenders to provide medical equipment specially for cardiac monitoring. Lighting facilities at Operation theatre’s in these homes will be replaced.
Some of the BBMP Maternity homes will undergo renovation and also construction. This includes the maternity homes at SK Garden ward, Bharatinagar ward and construction of a referral hospital in Ganesha Mandir Ward. Even Chamarajpet Maternity home is included.
Approximately 12000 children are born at BBMP Maternity homes in a month according to the Chief Health Officer, BBMP. This sums up to around 1.4 lakh deliveries in a year.
Patients at BBMP Maternity homes
Most of the expectant mothers who goes to the BBMP Maternity hospitals are poor and belongs to below poverty line. By uplifting and upgrading the maternity homes, the BBMP wants to provide quality healthcare.
The patients who get admitted to these hospitals mainly come from slum areas. Many of them are anaemic. In the case of C-section delivery, they need specialists,and these specialists are available only at the referral hospitals. BBMP will appoint more specialists at the BBMP referral hospitals to support these maternity homes.
The BBMP maternity homes are situated in areas which are thickly populated. Some of the BBMP maternity homes are run by nurses. These nurses avoid admitting pregnant ladies with critical cases as there are no doctors to attend to them.
The gynecologists appointed by the BBMP are available in the hospitals only during stipulated hours. In case a patient needs a surgery and comes to the hospital after 4 PM, they will be referred to better equipped hospitals.
Budget allotment for BBMP maternity homes
For the year 2018-2019 the BBMP has allocated Rs.1.50 crore to give away health kits to postnatal (postnatal period begins immediately after the birth of a child as the mothers body, including hormone levels and uterus size returns to anon-pregnant state. The terms puerperal period or immediate post partum period are commonly used to refer to the first 6 weeks following child birth.) mothers who take services from these BBMP maternity homes to keep health at its best.
PINK Baby scheme by BBMP maternity homes
To encourage the birth of girl baby the BBMP has introduced ‘pink baby’ scheme. Under this scheme Rs.5 lakh will be deposited in a FD account for the parents of the girl baby born on the 1st day of every year.
All the 24 BBMP maternity homes are covered under this scheme. This scheme will provide money to the girl child for good education.
