Hosur Road flyover is partially closed due to maintenance work. This has contributed for the congested traffic snarl at Hosur Road.
The travel time on Hosur road flyover has gone up from 15 minutes to an hour due to the maintenance work. Both lanes of the elevated highway closed. The length of the road taken up for maintenance is approximately 1.5km. The traffic will be diverted to the other side.
Regular techie commuters who heads to electronic city everyday are stuck for hours. Even ambulances moving to and from hospitals in and around areas are also stuck in Hosur road flyover.
Hosur road flyover/elevated expressway:
Hosur Road Elevated Expressway also known as Bangalore Elevated Tollway or Electronic City Flyover is a 9.985 kilometers long elevated highway from Madiwala to Electronic City.
It was initiated in early 2006, and was inaugurated on 22 January 2010. The Hosur road flyover starts from Bommanahalli after the Central Silk Board flyover and goes on up to Electronic City. It goes above the BMIC flyover on Hosur Road, at a height of 17 meters (56 ft), thus making it Bangalore’s tallest flyover.
The elevated expressway has helped to reduce the commute time to the tech hub of Electronic city greatly. Post the construction of this expressway, the travel time to Electronic City from central silk board junction near Koramangala is reduced to a mere 10 minutes.
Hosur road flyover traffic problem:
Traffic has been affected as the BETLP (Bangalore Elevated Tollway Private Limited) has put restriction on the vehicular movement. This restriction is on one side of the road from Electronic city to Hosur.
There is no restriction on the other side of the Hosur Road flyover from Hosur to Electronic city. But the traffic is affected on the other side of the lane as it is shared with the approaching vehicles coming from the opposite side.
The closure due to maintenance work on Hosur road flyover is causing a heavy congestion one side. The maintenance work will be continuous and be completed by March or April 2019.
As even after paying a heavy toll commuters are spending more time on the road. The Hosur road flyover is closed for all heavy vehicles which includes BMTC buses, Pvt. Buses and TNSTC buses.
Public opinion –maintenance of Hosur road flyover
The maintenance work is being undertaken as per the instructions of the National Highways Authority of India. Due to the traffic restrictions and closure of one side of road, the traffic jam is also bad at the roads below the elevated road.
The public are of the opinion that the maintenance could have been taken up in periodicals on weekends. As traffic on weekends are less the maintenance would have been easier.
Police personnel are posted at every junction between silk board and Electronic city. As there are no alternative roads to Electronic city, commuters either have to start their day early or opt for car pooling. This may reduce the number of vehicles.
