The Lions Club is an international secular, non political service organization founded in the year 1917 by Melvin Jones, an American by birth. Its headquarters is in Oak Brook, Illinois, USA.
The vision and mission of the club is to meet the needs and requirements of local communities and the world at large which includes caring for the environment, hearing and speech conservation, diabetes awareness, youth outreach, international relations, feeding the hungry, fighting blindness and meeting the requirements of the senior citizens and aiding and helping the disabled. Funds will be raised for worthy causes. All funds raised by the Lions Club from public are utilized for charitable purposes and all administrative costs are paid by the members.
Lions Club is the world’s largest service club organisation with 46000 clubs and 1.4 million members. The main focus being serving the blind and visually impaired and to aim for the elimination of preventable and reversible blindness. For over a century the Lions club has been working in improving the communities with different projects and programs.
The club provided infrastructure for a government school in Jakkur by erecting a compound wall for the school and a compound wall for their playground. They involved in building toilets for the government schools in Kogilu village.
The club’s important project is at the Government Primary and High School at Agrahara Layout since 1982. The club has provided facilities like toilets, computers, sewing machines for girls and boys, a library and a lab for science students. They also got involved in conducting health camps for all the school kids.
The Club have built a new school building with an air auditorium, a play area for children, 12 class rooms, painting the existing school, providing clean potable drinking water. They have set up a RO Plant for the school.
The club is serving all over the world to uplift downtrodden and has established a name as one of the largest and best service oriented in the entire world.
