Bengaluru is a home for many non-kannadigas hailing from different states. But now they proudly say “Naavu Kannadiga”.
Kannada kaliyona is a community initiative which is helping hundreds of software professionals, senior citizens, home makers and anybody who is interested in learning kannada language and to speak in the language fluently.
This initiative was started by Sampath Ramanujam who aims to connect non-kannadigas with the native speakers of the language in namma Bengaluru. The classes are conducted on weekends in government schools and at some of the apartment complexes at Seegehalli and Kadugodi.
This initiative is been seeing a steady increase in the number of people enrolling for the classes. According to Sampath Ramanujam, every language has a beauty of its own which makes it different from other languages. Speaking the language of the land helps non-kannadigas to connect with the local people.
The classes are conducted for 6 weekends, covering speaking, grammar and other aspect of the language. Each session is held for 2 hours consisting of 90 minutes of teaching and 30 minutes of learning. Every participant in the program will get a Kannada Kaliyona booklet and a #NonKannadigaToNaanuKannadiga online certificate.
Ramanujam wants to take the initiative to IT companies.
