Lok sabha 2019 – Independent candidate : Lok Sabha election is approaching. Prakash Rai will be contesting as an Independent candidate from Karnataka.
Prakash Rai is the third famous actor after Rajnikanth and Kamal Hassan to enter politics in recent years. On New Year day he announced his decision to contest the approaching Lok Sabha elections. He is yet to decide on a constituency from where he would fight.

Prakash Rai born on 26th March 1965 is an Indian multilingual film actor, film director, producer, thespian and television presenter who is known for his works in the South Indian film industry and Hindi films. He acted in back-to-back stage shows in the initial stages of his career, when he joined Kalakshetra, Bengaluru and he has 2,000 street theatre performances to his credit.
Rai is known for his anti-BJP stance. He has also been vocal in seeking justice for his friend and journalist Gauri Lankesh, who was shot outside her residence.
He had earlier claimed that Bollywood stopped offering him roles as he has been critical of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre.

The elections will be held in April or May to constitute the 17th Lok Sabha.
Prakash Rai has spoken out on a variety of issues like campaign against Padmavathi to the gag on S.Durga at IFFI. The controversy also includes demonetization to Hindutva politics in Karnataka. For his outspoken talks, Rai has earned respect, abuse and also criticism.
In the 3 decades of his acting career in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam cinemas, Rai has ducked down and struck to work rather than take a public stand on controversial issues.
Rai grew up in an interfaith family. His mother was a roman catholic who married a Hindu. He is a non-believer.
Speculations are strong that he may contest from Mysore-Kodagu. This constituency is represented by Pratap Simha of BJP.
On 5th January 2019 Prakash Rai confirmed that he is contesting from Bengaluru Central. He could be up against sitting MP BJP’s P.C.Mohan. The BJP MP defeated the Congress candidate Rizwan Ahmed by 40000 votes in 2014.
