Deepak Kumar Gets Silver at Jakarta Asian Games shooting

Deepak Kumar (born 5 November 1987) is an Indian Sport Shooter. This is Deepak’s first medal at a major tournament. Earlier this year, he finished fourth and fifth at the Guadalajara World Cup and Commonwealth Games respectively.

His entry into the sport was almost accidental. “Jaspal Rana’s  (former World No. 1 pistol shooter) academy was a couple kilometers away from his  Gurukul  in Poundha. One day Jaspal’s father came up to Guruji and urged him to send some of the students to the academy for shooting classes free of charge. He felt that the students would do well in the sport since the students practiced meditation, which was a much-needed virtue.   His journey started from there.

Deepak Kumar shot 247.7 to finish second on the podium behind China’s Haoran Yang, who won the top with a games record 249.1 at the JSC Shooting Range at Jakarta. Dee[al then shot a 10.8 to get the better of Raci (205.2) who combined with Apurvi Chandela to win bronze the air rifle mixed event.
