The Indian Premier League – cricket officially Vivo Indian Premier League for sponsorship reasons, is a professional Twenty20 cricket league in India. It is contested during April and May of every year by teams representing Indian cities and some states.
The league was founded by the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2008, and is regarded as the brainchild of Lalit Modi, the founder and former commissioner of the league.
Indian Premier League – cricket Tournament format
In Indian Premier League – Cricket, each team plays each other twice in a home-and-away round-robin format in the league phase. At the conclusion of the league stage, the top four teams will qualify for the playoffs. The top two teams from the league phase will play against each other in the first Qualifying match, with the winner going straight to the Indian Premier League – cricket final.
The loser getting another chance to qualify for the Indian Premier League-cricket final by playing the second Qualifying match. Meanwhile, the third and fourth place teams from league phase play against each other in an eliminator match and the winner from that match will play the loser from the first Qualifying match.
The winner of the second Qualifying match will move onto the final to play the winner of the first Qualifying match in the Indian premier league cricket Final match, where the winner will be crowned the Indian Premier League champions.
Indian Premier League – Scheduling
In 2009 the Indian Premier League was held in South Africa. In 2014 the tournament was at the United Arab emirates.
Scheduling of the cash-rich Indian Premier League had become a challenge this year with India’s general election due by May. It is also the month when the 50-overs World Cup gets underway in England.
It is learnt that the cash-rich tournament has been kept in the country keeping in view the fact that the elections are held in phases. It would not be too much of a logistical issue to schedule the games.
Players to look out at Indian Premier League
Steve Smith and David Warren of Australia will return to the Indian Premier League – cricket after a gap. Both the players are serving 1 year ban and were barred from the 2018 Indian Premier League.

- The BCCI CoA has confirmed that Indian Premier League 2019 will not be shifted outside India.
