Muhammed Anas Yahiya (born 17 September 1994) is an Indian long jumper turned sprinter who specializes in the 400 m. event. He participated in two events at the 2016 summer Olympics ; the 400 m. and the 4×400 m relay and holds the National Record (45.31) for the 400 meters.
Anas broke the national record in 400 metres at the Polish Athletics Championship in Poland in June 2016, clocking 45.40 seconds, the exact qualification mark for the Olympics. He also became the third Indian athlete to qualify for the event at the Olympics, after Milkha Singh (1956 and 1960) and K.M.Binu (2004).
Muhammed Anas Yahiya became India’s first silver-medalist in the Men’s 400m race at the Asian Games in 36 years. The last time an Indian won a silver medal or better at the Asian Games was in 1982 in New Delhi and it was K.K. Premachandran. Anas bagged a silver medal in the Men’s 400m, finishing just behind Qatar’s Hassan Abdalelah, with a timing of 45.69 seconds. Anas had qualified for the Final after topping the charts in both the Heats Qualification and Semifinal after clocking 45.63 seconds and 45.30 seconds, respectively.
