Neena Varakil (born 2 May 1991) is an Indian athlete who won a silver medal for the country in the women’s long jump.
Neena recorded the best attempt of 6.51 meters to finish second. The girl from Meppayur in Kozhikode, Kerala heaved a sigh of relief when she cleared 6.51m on her 4th attempt in the women’s long jump at Jakarta. Bui Thi Thu Thao of Vietnam registered her season’s best attempt of 6.55m to win the gold medal. The bronze medal went to China with Xu Xiaoling jumping 6.50m.
As she was not feeling comfortable training in the national camp under National Chief, she chose to put in the hard yards with her husband Pinto Mathew, an international hurdler himself in the last months.
In 2017 her personal best was 6.66m which she achieved in Bengaluru in July 2016.
Congratulations on your success.
