Neeraj Chopra was undoubtedly the star of the day for India after he became the first Indian javelin thrower to win an Asian Games gold medal when he shattered his own national record by clearing a distance of 88.06m. Reigning Asian champion Neeraj Chopra created a new national record on his way to the men’s javelin gold at the 18th Asian Games. Neeraj threw 88.06 meters in his third attempt to clinch the gold.
Chopra’s gold is India’s only second medal in the javelin throw in Asian Games history after Gurtej Singh won a bronze in 1982 in New Delhi.
Chopra was expected to strike gold as he had performed well in the Diamond League events through the season. Chopra’s effort of 88.06 meters was also a new Indian record. Neeraj Chopra is unstoppable in breaking all Records loose. Congratulations. You’ve done India proud.
