Indian Triple Jumper Praveen Chitravel has bagged a Bronze medal at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics in the Argentine city of Buenos Aires.
Praveen Chitravel finished in third place behind Cuba’s Alejandro Diaz (17.14m and 17.04) and Nigeria’s Emmeanuel Oritsemeyiwa (16.34m and 15.51 m) to clinch the Bronze medal.
The 17-year-old Praveen Chitravel cleared a distance of 15.68 metres to finish fifth in the Stage 2 competition but his good showing in Stage 1, where he was third with a jump of 15.84 metres, took him to the podium. Chitravel is the 2nd individual from India to bag a medal in athletics.
In a new format, there are no finals in track and field (with the exception of 4km cross-country) in the Youth Olympics and each event is held twice, with results from both rounds counting towards the final standings.
Happy had a different feeling, as an exuberant Praveen Chithravel spoke about his Bronze win! His maiden international Medal will ignite a hundred more dreams.
Congratulations to Praveen Chitravel.
