Kannada movies in Amazon Prime video

Kannada entertainment content is now making a big splash in the internet-based On-Demand Video-Streaming space, growing at an explosive pace. Just when Hotstar, Netflix and other big players are edging out schedule-based traditional television content, Kannada has broken fresh ground with Amazon Prime Video.

Amazon Prime Video has added Kannada movies to its library after Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Bengali and Hindi content. Prime Video has also acquired the digital streaming rights for several upcoming Kannada movies next year including Avane Srimannarayana and Orange among others.

Launched  on Karnataka Day, Kannada will be the sixth Indian language content on the service. Prime members will have access to popular Kannada films, theatrical releases and next year’s titles

From November 1, Prime members in India will have access to popular Kannada films, theatrical releases, hit movies from recent years, and anticipated titles that are set to release in 2019.

The Kannada content library starts with the digital premiere of recently released hit film Katheyondu Shuruvgide, which is available with English subtitles too. Viewers can stream recent movies such as Sankashta Kara Ganapathi, Vardhana and Andhagaara among others.

Prime Video has changed the way the people in India and around the world consumes content. It has broken barriers, allowing consumers not just in the country, but also outside to discover and enjoy stories from their place of origin. It is a great unifying thread.

The entry of cheap broadband services could further push video-streaming services, say industry watchers. The data price crash sparked by Jio had revolutionized consumption of videos on the mobile screens, and this could now shift to the net-connected, WiFi-enabled Smart TV screens. A shift from English to vernacular content would mean the battle for eyeballs will shift to small towns and cities.
